The enthusiasm for the hamlet was so resounding that we actually joked if we should "tone it down" so that it didn't sound like we wrote the interview! Here it is – unedited. When asked how they first heard about Borgo di Vagli , in his classically wonderful accent, "For many years now, we enjoy and value Tuscany because of its beautiful scenery, perfect Mediterranean climate, friendly people, excellent food and wine and cultural facilities. When we are on summer holiday with our little family, we regularly take the car and drive into the Tuscan hills to find a restaurant or exceptional place. We deliberately do not want to go to the rated and recommended restaurants in the various tourist guides. You only meet tourist their and we wanted to enjoy the local people and habits instead. In July 2004 we were enjoying a 2-week holiday in Umbria. We stayed close to Lago Trassimeno. At a certain evening, we took the car to find a restaurant and landed in Mercatale, just by coincidence. There I decided to take the road to Cortona hoping to find a restaurant. On the road crossing the hill between Mercatale and Cortona, I saw a sign to Borgo di Vagli and a sign of a restaurant "I'cche c`é c`é ", so I followed the signs. Once on the little 2km unpaved path to Borgo di Vagli, there is only one thing you can do : Follow it until you reach Vagli. Arriving in Vagli, we were impressed by the views, its quietness, and the construction and style of the houses in the hamlet. Never seen this before. We couldn't belief such places still exists on earth! 'Wonderbaarlijk mooi ! ' At that time the director explained to us that we couldn't eat at the restaurant because of the pre-booking principle and fixed-menu approach. We were kindly invited although for the next days. So we did, came back 2 days later, and enjoyed a great evening with friendly people. Before the dinner, the director's wife guided us around the hamlet, showed us the beauty of the houses, and explained about the redevelopment under leadership of Fulvio Di Rosa. In summary: "Amazingly Impressive!" In 2006, we celebrated our wedding anniversary in the restaurant at Borgo di Vagli. We enjoyed our summer holidays in Regello and at that particular evening we were at Borgo di Vagli again. Our memories were refreshed and our views on this unique place were confirmed again. In 2008, we decided to book our holidays at Borgo di Vagli and became owners. Owning property in Tuscany was not the main goal, but we wanted to prevent that one day we would be locked out from Borgo di Vagli when all parts are sold. So, when after having 3 times a great time at such a unique place, why not committing to such a place?" In discussing their decision to purchase and become owners at Vagli, Dirk followed his story of discovery with the logic behind their decision: "Here is our decision tree: We saw a lot of the world already, but where do we like it most ? Tuscany ! What is important for us when we are on holiday ? No worries, good life, feel at home ! What is Good Life? Excellent food, sun, pool, luxury independent house, nearby cultural activities, friendly people. Will we get bored about Tuscany ? Maybe, but we enjoy it more and more every time we were there. So, the main question that we put ourselves was: 'Is there anything we don't like about Borgo di Vagli ?' If so, we would have refrained from investing in it. We tried hard to find all kind of things we didn't like, but couldn't find any. So, we decided to invest." And, because Borgo di Vagli allows for unaccompanied guests, Dirk closed in saying, "Family relatives and some close friends of ours have an open invitation to visit Borgo di Vagli."
