Each month we highlight a place of interest around the globe that we consider as unique as Borgo di Vagli. The tips are selected as they either show respect for the environment, nature, and architectural beauty or are deeply indigenous to their individual origin.
This month we highlight a newly opened hotel in Rome. Il Cantico, which sits just a few minutes walk from Piazza S. Pietro. From some of the windows and the roof terrace, you can almost reach out and touch the dome of S. Pietro. The hotel has been tastefully restored with an evidently minimalist, almost Scandinavian style giving new life to an existing Franciscan ostello for pilgrims and young people visiting Rome and the Vatican. Any profit from the hotel is donated to charity, Franciscan aid and school centers in the third world.
No paintings or art is to be found throughout the hotel… only quotes on the walls by Saint Francis. The room rate is incredibly convenient (€140,00 p/night including breakfast and garage – extremely important in that part of Rome) and the hotel boasts a very nice onsite restaurant.
